About Me

jody weiner davis

Do you feel stuck—unable to see new possibilities or solutions? You may want to change, but feel unsure how to begin. Therapy can offer a space to step back, gain perspective, and move forward with greater clarity and intention.

My work is grounded in a thoughtful, collaborative approach that helps people loosen unhelpful patterns, clarify what matters most, and take meaningful steps toward change. The focus is not on fixing what is “wrong,” but on helping you respond differently to challenges so life feels more manageable, flexible, and aligned with your values.

Therapeutic Approach

My primary clinical approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a modern cognitive behavioral framework that supports psychological flexibility, mindfulness, and values-based action. ACT guides much of my work with individuals, couples, and families, particularly when clients feel overwhelmed, stuck, or caught in repetitive emotional or relational patterns.

In my work with couples, I also draw from Gottman-informed relationship therapy, using evidence-based strategies to strengthen communication, deepen emotional connection, and address patterns that contribute to conflict or disconnection. This approach is especially helpful when couples are navigating relationship stress, trust repair, or significant life transitions.

A Family Systems perspective informs my work across all settings. Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, attention is given to the broader relational and contextual factors that shape experience. This systems-based lens helps illuminate patterns, roles, and dynamics that influence both challenges and opportunities for change.

Depending on your needs, our work together may be short-term and problem-focused or longer-term and more exploratory. The goal is to support effective decision-making, improve quality of life, and develop practical coping strategies that can be carried beyond therapy.

Professional Experience

My clinical background includes many years of work in outpatient hospital settings, psychiatric clinics, and substance use treatment programs. I began my private practice in 1982 after completing postgraduate training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in New York City. After relocating to New Jersey in 1985, I continued in private practice and have remained committed to ongoing professional development and ethical clinical care.

In addition to psychotherapy, I offer workshop presentations and professional supervision for colleagues.
